Introduction of the Lab/ Research Field
The laboratory research field is modern ultrafast laser spectroscopy and experimental physical chemistry related to chemical reaction kinetics, including but not limited to: a. Physical chemistry of surfaces and interfaces: structure, interaction and chemical kinetics; b. Spectroscopy and molecular reaction kinetics: vibration and electron spectroscopy; c. Linear and nonlinear and spectroscopy and modern spectral analysis methods: infrared, Raman and harmony spectroscopy and imaging; d. Chirality and stereochemistry on surfaces and biofilms, etc.
PI Profile: Wang Hongfei, born in May 1968 in Yongchuan, Chongqing, is a fellow of the American Physical Society (elected in 2012). In 1999, he was selected into the 100 Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; In 2004, he won the Outstanding Youth Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He graduated from the Department of Chemical Physics of the University of Science and Technology of China in 1988, received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry of Columbia University in 1996, and engaged in postdoctoral research in the Department of Chemistry and the Institute of Structure of Matter at the University of Pennsylvania from 1996 to 1999, and the Mars Hall Research Institute of DuPont. From 1999 to 2009, he served as a researcher at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, during which he served as the director of the Laboratory of Molecular Reaction Dynamics and the deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Reaction Kinetics of the Institute of Chemistry (2000-2004). From 2009 to 2017, he served as Chief Scientist at the Institute for Environmental Molecular Science (EMSL) and the Division of Matter and Computational Sciences (PCSD) at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy; In early 2017, he joined the Department of Chemistry of Fudan University as a professor and a distinguished professor of Fudan University. In 2019, he was appointed as a professor at the School of Science, Westlake University. His research interests include the development of theoretical and experimental methods related to quantitative analysis and accurate measurement of nonlinear spectroscopy and kinetics, and is engaged in the research of physical chemistry related to surfaces, interfaces and condensed phases, material chemistry, environmental and life science issues, etc.
