Introduction of the Lab/ Research Field

Neural computation highly relies on two basic chemical transmission in the brain: synaptic transmission and volume transmission. In synaptic transmission, a presynaptic terminal rapidly and precisely signals to its postsynaptic partner in a point-to-point mode. By contrast, neuromodulators like dopamine act through volume transmission, where they diffuse to mediate effects over a large area.

Liu Lab is interested in the fundamental principles of neuronal communications in the mammalian brain that give rise to consciousness and behavior. We employ a variety of cutting-edge technologies to dissect the activity dynamics and functional architecture of neurotransmission and neuromodulation in health and disease. Our current research focuses on three directions: 1) The biophysics and molecular mechanisms of synaptic transmission; 2) The coding principles of dopamine and cholinergic systems in the brain; 3) The Next-generation drug discovery technologies for central nervous diseases. These studies will build the foundation for understanding the nature of brain computation and will ultimately power the development of new therapeutic strategies for treating related disorders. Lab website: https://changliangliu-lab.com

Job Description

Position: Postdoctoral Fellow (2)

Requirements:

1) Published/about to publish papers on peer-reviewed SCI journals.

2) More than three years’ experience in neurobiology, neuropharmacology, electrophysiology, functional imaging, biophysics, optical system, or digital data processing.

3) Excellent English writing and communication skills.

Other requirements:

Having obtained or about to obtain a Ph.D. degree, aged under 35.

Compensation and Benefits

The research team offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. Applications for relevant projects and programs will be encouraged and supported.

Postdoc(s) selected for China Postdoctoral Science Foundation or Zhejiang Province Selected Funding for Postdoctoral Research Projects will be entitled to further receive a supporting fund of the same amount from the Hangzhou municipal government.

Postdoc(s) who work in Hangzhou on a full-time basis after completing their postdoctoral research will be eligible for applying an allowance of 400,000RMB from the Hangzhou municipal government.
