The Electromechanobiology lab uses a systems biology approach and investigates the interplay between 1) molecular pathways, 2) endogenous electric fields and 3) cellular mechanics in driving tissue homeostasis. Day-to-day techniques/equipment used in the lab are molecular/cell biology techniques, optical microscopy/image analysis, microfluidic/microfabricated systems, and biomechanical/electrical parameter measurements. Knowledge generated from the lab will help understand the formation of health/disease states and be used to develop novel tissue/stem cell engineering applications.

Job Description

Position: Research Assistant (1 – 2 positions)

Start date: End of 2021/Early 2022

Job Responsibilities:

The research assistant is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the lab, closely coordinating with the PI. This includes equipment, students/staffs, supplies, documentation, safety, and research.

Some job specifics:

(1) Assist in setting-up of lab (typical biology/bioengineering wetlab);

(2) Purchase/maintain lab equipment/software; Train new students/staffs in using common equipment;

(3) Maintain lab material/chemical/supplies inventory; Work with administrative assistant on reimbursement;

(4) Keep track of grant/funding usage;

(5) Assist in research tasks (e.g. microfluidic device fabrication/stem cell culture/cell or molecular biology work).


(1) At least Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Bioengineering or Biomedical/Life Sciences or related fields;

(2) Enthusiastic about Science with independent thinking, attentive to details;

(3) Good communication/writing skills in English and Chinese;

(4) Previous lab experience, at least 1 – 2 years;

(5) Preferably having plans to stay in this job for at least 2 years.
