Introduction of The Lab/ Research Field

Dr. Qiufu Ma joined Westlake University in 2022 as the chair professor of neurobiology and the director of the Research Center for Systems Physiology and Bioelectronic Medicine. Dr. Ma is a pioneer in using genetic tools to map spinal pain pathways (Duan et al., Cell, 2014; Cheng et al., Nature Neuroscience, 2017; Huang et al., Nature, 2019). In recent years, his lab started to study the neuroanatomical basis behind acupuncture practice, providing concrete support for the presence of acupoint specificity in driving autonomic neural pathways that can powerfully modulate inflammation (Liu et al., Nature, 2021). At Westlake University, Dr. Ma's lab will explore how neural signals regulate immune cells, optimize acupuncture stimulation parameters to activate specific anti-inflammatory neural pathways, and seek new ways to treat chronic diseases including chronic pain disorders.

Job Description

Positions: Research Assistant Professors (multiple), Research Associate Professors (1-2)

Requirements:

1) Have strong passion for science; independently minded.

2) Candidates trained in neuroscience, electrophysiology/two-photon neuronal

imaging, acupuncture studies, immunology, or single cell sequencing are

preferred.

3) Have published or about to publish first-author paper(s).

4) Adequate ability to read and communicate in English.

5) Research Assistant Professors should have obtained a Ph.D. degree. Research Associate Professors should have at least 5 years of research experience after obtaining Ph.D. degree.
