The School of Engineering (SOE) is devoted to frontier research in applied sciences and innovation of technologies to advance human wellbeing sustainably. It aims to establish key strengths at the cutting-edge in science and technology through interdisciplinary research, training of forward-thinking students and recruitment of top talents from around the world.

The school currently has (but will not be limited to) six programs: Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Electronic and Information Engineering, Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable and Environmental Engineering. By focusing on the six major programs, the School of Engineering has built several high-level laboratories and research centers. Among them, are The Key Laboratory of 3D Micro/Nano Fabrication and Characterization of Zhejiang Province, The Key Laboratory of Coastal Environment and Resources of Zhejiang Province (KLaCER), and The Engineering Research Center of Micro/Nano-Photonic/Electronic System Integration of Zhejiang Province. The School of Engineering also jointly builds Westlake Center of Synthetic Biology and Integrated Bioengineering (WE-SynBio) with the School of Life Sciences and the School of Science.

Currently we are recruiting a laboratory safety manager. Please see below for details:

I. Position: Laboratory Safety Manager


i.   Implement the management regulations related to laboratory safety as requested by the country, local governments and the university.

ii.  Cooperate with the university’s laboratory and scientific research facilities department to establish and improve the relevant system in each lab to improve safety at the School of Engineering.

iii.  Be responsible for the laboratory safety and management of each discipline, such as biomedicine, chemistry and biology, electronic information, materials and machinery, environment, artificial intelligence, etc., and protect the safety of laboratory personnel and public property.

iv.  Supervise all laboratories in the school to implement the safety access system, and regularly organize safety training and emergency drills.

v.  Organize risk assessment of experimental projects in various laboratories on a regular basis.

vi.  Carry out laboratory safety inspections and checkups and urge the rectification of hidden dangers.

vii.  Be responsible for emergency response guidance and investigation of laboratory safety accidents in the school.

a) Requirements

i.  Serious and reliable with a strong sense of responsibility.

ii.  Master’s degree or above in chemistry, materials or environment, with more than three years of work experience in laboratory safety management in chemistry, materials, biology, environment, etc..

iii. Be familiar with laboratory water, electricity, gas, chemicals, and other related knowledge, and capable of dealing with emergencies.

iv. Understand the safety hazards of commonly used laboratory instruments, chemicals, biological drugs, special equipment, high temperature high-pressure equipment, waste liquids, radiation devices, laser equipment, etc. Have the capability to instruct each laboratory on safety protection and prevention.

v.  Have good communication and coordination skills with a positive attitude in teamwork.

vi. Have strong writing and communication skills in both Chinese and English. Capable of using English as a working language.
