Dr. Hongtao YU is Chair Professor and Dean of School of Life Sciences at Westlake University. Dr. Yu received his B.S. in Chemistry from Peking University in 1990, and received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Harvard University in 1995. He then completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Yu began his independent research career in 1999 in Department of Pharmacology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2004 and to Professor in 2008. He was appointed Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Investigator in 2008, and was elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2012. He was the holder of the Serena S. Simmons Distinguished Chair in Cancer Immunopharmacology before joining the faculty of Westlake University in December, 2019.
The Westlake Pharma, Inc. (Hangzhou), which was established in September 2020, is an innovation-driven biomedical company headquartered in Yunqi Town of the Xihu District of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. The founding team is led by Prof. Hongtao YU, a world-renowned cell biologist and the Dean of the School of Life Sciences of Westlake University, and Prof. Qi HU and Prof. Jing HUANG from the School of Life Sciences of Westlake University. Our research and development capability stems from in-depth understanding of diseases at the molecular level and use of interdisciplinary approaches integrating cell biology, structural biology, medicinal chemistry, and artificial intelligence studies. With strong support from Westlake University, we are committed to developing first-in-class drugs targeting major human diseases such as cancer and coronavirus diseases.
