Biography

Dr Shiyu Zhao received the BEng and MEng degrees from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China, in 2006 and 2009, respectively. He got the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from National University of Singapore in 2014. Thereafter, he served as post-doctoral researchers at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and University of California at Riverside from 2014 to 2016. He then became a lecturer in the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering at the University of Sheffield, UK, in 2016. He has joined Westlake University as an assistant professor since the spring of 2019. 


Dr Zhao has extensive theoretical and practical research experience on unmanned aerial systems. He has published more than 40 research articles in the area of automatic control and robotics. His representative research work is bearing rigidity theory and its applications in networked systems. Related results have been published as a tutorial article in IEEE Control Systems Magazine. Besides, he also has extensive research experience in computer vision systems. Dr. Zhao serves as associate editors for many conferences including IEEE IROS, IEEE ICCA, and ICUAS, etc. He was a Regional Chair of IEEE ICCA 2018 and a Program Chair of IEEE ICCA 2019. He is an associate editor for the international journal, Unmanned Systems. He is a corecipient of the Best Paper Award (Guan Zhao-Zhi Award) in the 33rd Chinese Control Conference, Nanjing, China, in 2014.
