Introduction of the Lab/ Research Field

The Westlake University Biomaterials and Regenerative Engineering Alliance Laboratory (B-REAL) focuses on developing transformative biomaterials for applications in regenerative engineering. The research topics include but not limited to: 1) Citrate chemistry and biology for biomaterials development; 2) complex tissue repair and regeneration; 3) cell metabolism and stem cell differentiation; 4) biomanufacturing; 5) bioimaging and biosensing; 6) functional biomaterials and medical devices; 7) artificial intelligence and machine learning. B-REAL welcomes ambitious, creative, and hard-working students and postdocs who bares urgent sense of societal responsibility and would like to make the world a better place joining his cross-disciplinary lab to solve the critical challenges in biomaterials and regenerative engineering.

PI Biography

The PI, Dr. Jian Yang is a Chair Professor of Biomaterials and Regenerative Engineering in the School of Engineering at Westlake University. Before joining Westlake University, Dr. Jian Yang was a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Dorothy Foehr Huck and J. Lloyd Huck Chair in Regenerative Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). Dr. Yang is known for his contribution on citrate chemistry and biology for the development and applications of citrate-based biomaterials. Dr. Yang has published over 150 papers and received 22 issued US patents and more than 100 international patents/applications. He was a recipient of NSF CAREER Award (2010), Outstanding Young Engineering Faculty Award at UTA (2011), and PSEAS Outstanding Research Award at Penn State (2018). Dr. Yang is an elected the Fellow of American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE, 2016), National Academy of Inventors (NAI, 2018), US Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES, 2020), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS, 2021), and International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering (IAMBE, 2023). Dr. Yang is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of “Bioactive Materials” (IF 16.874), and Associate Editor of “Science Advances” (IF 14.957), and an Associate Editor of “Frontiers in Biotechnology and Bioengineering” (IF 6.064). Dr. Yang is the co-founder and the Past-President of Chinese Association for Biomaterials (CAB) and the recipient of 2023 CAB Distinguished Leadership and Service Award.

Job Description

Position: Postdoctoral Fellows (4-5)

Requirements:

1) Candidates should have a background in any of the following discipline: chemistry, physics, materials, biology, medicine, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering.

2) Candidates should have research experience at least in one of the following fields: (a) biomaterials; (b) tissue engineering and regenerative medicine; (c) organic luminescent materials, optoelectrical materials, dielectric materials, photoacoustic materials and device micro/nano-fabrication; (d) medical imaging and applications; (e) stem cell manufacturing and stem cell differentiation; (f) gene editing; (g) immunotherapy; (h) implant biocompatibility; (i) biomanufacturing and 3D printing; (j) Simulation and theoretical calculation (FEM, DFT or molecular dynamics); (k) artificial intelligence and machine learning in materials, chemistry, and biology research; (l) surgeries and animal models; (j) neuroengineering and neurotechnology.

3) Candidates should have a PhD degree or will obtain a Ph.D. degree before joining as a postdoc.

4) Candidates should have clear career goals, be ambitious, hard-working, and good at communications and cooperation.

5) Candidates should be effective in English communicating and writing and have published at least one paper in top journals.

Compensation and Benefits

The research team offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Postdoc(s) selected for China Postdoctoral Science Foundation or Zhejiang Province Selected Funding for Postdoctoral Research Projects will be entitled to further receive a supporting fund of the same amount from the Hangzhou municipal government.

Postdoc(s) who work in Hangzhou on a full-time basis after completing their postdoctoral research will be eligible for applying an allowance of 400,000RMB from the Hangzhou municipal government.
