Prof. Ning Jiao

Speaker:

Prof. Ning Jiao received his PhD from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Supervisor: Professor Shengming Ma) at 2004. During 2004-2006, he obtained Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for the postdoctoral research in Max Planck Institute für Kohlenforschung (MPI) Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany (Supervisor: Professor Manfred T. Reetz). Since 2007, he started working as an associate professor, and currently the full professor, in State Key Laboratory of Natural and Biomimetic Drugs, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Peking University.  Prof. Jiao attained various awards and honors, including Yangtze river scholars Distinguished Professor, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Youth Top-notch Talents, "New Century Excellent Talents in University Award" from Chinese Ministry of Education, etc.. He currently services as the editorial board member for several Journals, such as Heterocyclic Communication, Scientific Reports, Natural Product against Cancer.

Research Interests: His group hopes to develop some green and efficient synthetic methodologies for the synthesis of heterocycles, bioactive molecules and potential drugs by the strategies of radical reactions, the activation of inert chemical bonds, and highly selective reaction design.

2) Nitrogenation: Incorporation of Nitrogen Atom into Simple Substrates;

4) Small molecules activation .

Abstract:

Nitrogen-containing compounds are widely present in natural products, functional materials, top-selling drugs, as well as bioactive molecules. Although significant progresses have made in the functionalization of simple hydrocarbons, direct incorporation of N-atoms into the simple substrates via C–H and/or C–C bond cleavage remains challenging due to the inert chemical bonds. In this presentation, the direct nitrogenation of hydrocarbons will be introduced.
