Biography:

Prof. Chungang Duan earned his Ph.D. degree in theoretical physics from Institute of Physics, Beijing, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China in 1998. Then he worked in University of Nebraska, USA from 1998 to 2007. In 2008, he joined East China Normal University as full professor. He is now the director of key lab of polar materials and devices, Ministry of Education, China. His group is currently working on multiferroics, magnetoelectric, energy conversion and neuromophic computing materials. He has published more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Elec., Nature Commun., PRL, PNAS, Nano Lett., Adv. Mater., etc., with more than 8000 citations. His group is currently working on multiferroics and magnetoelectric materials. He is also the editorial member of Journals like NPJ Comp. Mater., JPCM, etc. He is the recipient of Outstanding Young Scientist Award (2011) in China. In 2017, he received the 12th Shanghai Peony Award in Science for his contribution in the study of multiferroics and magnetoelectric effect.


Abstract:

Brain-like devices based on nonvolatile memory technology are expected to realize in-memory computing. Many countries have invested huge resources on this field. Ferroelectric materials have advantages of non-volatile, low power consumption and easy manipulation, which have great potential in the construction of efficient neuromorphic devices and brain-like chips. This talk will report recent progress of our group on synaptic devices based on ferroelectric and oxide resistive effect. Finally I will introduce the concept of super-brain prophet system.
