43rd Westlake Engineering Lecture Series (WELS) | Dongqiang Zhu: Molecular Structure/Size-dependent Adsorption and Transformation of Organic Contaminants
Time: 16:00-18:00, Friday, May 26, 2023
Host: Dr. Yanyan Zhang, Assistant Professor, School of Engineering
Language: English
Speaker:
Prof. Dongqiang Zhu
Professor
Peking University
Biography:
Dr. Zhu obtained his Ph.D. in Environmental Geochemistry in Department of Geology & Geophysics at Texas A&M University, College Station in 2001. He is currently a Boya Distinguished Professor in School of Urban & Environmental Sciences at Peking University. Dr. Zhu’s specific research interests include understanding the fundamental mechanisms that control fate processes of environmental contaminants and evaluating biogeochemical cycling and environmental impacts of black carbon, natural organic matter and biomacromolecules. Since 2003, Dr. Zhu has published over 130 peer-reviewed research articles (43 in ES&T), and the publications were cited by others for more than 12000 times with an H-index of 53 (Google Scholar). He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China (2012) and the Distinguished Professor of Yangtze River Scholar of China (2014).
Abstract:
The presentation will introduce serval key mechanisms and factors controlling targeted directional adsorptive interactions and transformation reactions of highly concerned organic contaminants (including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons/PAHs, carbon tetrachloride, antibiotics and antibiotic resistant genes/ARGs) in natural and engineered environmental systems. The obtained results will help to predict the environmental fate of these chemical substances as well as to develop efficient and cost-effective pollution control and remediation technologies for polluted soils and waters.
