Just after Westlake University (previously Westlake Institute for Advanced Study) received approval to independently recruit postdoc researchers, 69 labs posted their latest vacancies in China and beyond.

Which labs?

In the extensive list of new hiring, big names such as Yang YANG, Li DENG, Weicheng CUI, Ling LI, Mohanmad SAWAN and others popped up, dotted with a bunch of young scientists looking for like-minded new colleagues.

For instance, Yang YANG, the chair professor of material science and the dean of the School of Engineering, who took office on 1 July, is a world-renowned researcher in material science. The successful candidates can follow the big name and conduct theoretical and methodological research into the latest semiconductors. Apart from this, candidates may also join in mentoring students, working side by side with lab members and assisting in lab management.

Ying ZHEN is a principal investigator in the School of Life Sciences who has just come back from Princeton University. Her research mainly focuses on the evolution of various living creatures and their adaptation to their natural environment. She is now looking for researchers with experience in areas such as evolution, molecular ecology, population genetics and comparative genomics.

Huaiming Wang is a principal investigator in the School of Science whose primary research focus is how to apply polypeptide biomaterials in cancer treatment and diagnostics, which involves interdisciplinary knowledge in chemistry, biology and medicine. He is now welcoming doctors in organic chemistry and material chemistry as well as talents in protein engineering, molecule imaging, biomedicine and other related areas.

What qualifications?

Each lab has its own requirements, but there are two commonalities: first off, aged 35 or younger, obtained doctoral degrees in the last three years; then, experience in relevant research, with good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
